At the risk of losing a few friends (or followers), I have to admit something: I might just love winter just as much as summer. There, I said it. Please don’t curse me or hit the unfollow button just yet! I promise, even if snowflakes aren’t your thing, there’s plenty to love about this season. Of course the obvious is the various types of outdoor sports you can do. But I am trying to bring a few winter haters onto my side.
So let’s start with a few chiller activities. For my winter lovers, skip down to the more involved activities like Fat Biking, Skiing and Caving below.

If you are looking for something something more exciting and family friendly, The Village at Blue is the obvious choice.
You can literally play all day without setting foot on the ski hill. In addition to the well-know Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster and Ropes Course and Plunge Aquatic, I like to engage in a little friendly family competition at Axed Blue Mountain and it’s new sister venue The Bunker Arcade.
If the weather is frightful, there are lots of fun indoor spaces for families in Collingwood as well.
For those looking to embrace the great outdoors I’ve got you covered (in snow I hope;)
Mother Nature has been kind to use with lots of snow this year, which means easy access to great snow-based activities.
Cross Country Skiing
On the right day this year, you can literally just do this right outside your door. Of course there are lots of places to go where you won’t have to worry about running into a snowplow.
The Town of Blue Mountains once again is grooming the Georgian Trail and Tomahawk Recreational Complex for cross country skiing. Both options are free and easily accessible if you have your own equipment.
If you are looking to skate ski, or need to rent equipment, Scenic Caves and Nordic Highlands are your best bet.
Downhill Skiing
Blue Mountain Resort provides stellar runs and breathtaking views. It’s the largest ski resort in Ontario and it has great terrain for all abilities.
Fat Biking – Winter Fun on Two Wheels
Fat biking is a thrilling way to enjoy the snow! With oversized tires made for snowy trails, it’s a fun and active way to explore the winter landscape.
